Tango with Lions is the stage name of Berlin-based singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Kat Papachristou. She is signed with Inner Ear Records via which she has released four studio albums, “Verba Time” (2010), “A Long Walk” (2013), “The Light” (2018) and “you.me.” (2022), as well as various singles.
Her music and lyrics capture human emotions, nature and coping mechanisms and patterns, while navigating through pain and loss, relationships, immigration and the passage of time. Her albums are musical diaries where every song is a story, or several stories interwoven and penetrated by the same emotional impact. Some songs are earthly, low-key and acoustic, other songs are electric, rocky, loud and some present elements of experimental instrumentalism, while her distinctive warm, airy voice narrates in the foreground.
Tango with Lions’ debut album “Verba Time” (2010) received enthusiastic reviews, while the song In A Bar has
broken a record of views on YouTube, reaching 35M hits.
Her second album, critically acclaimed “A Long Walk” (2013) was followed by third album “The Light” (2018).
Her new, fourth album “you.me.” was released on November 11, 2022.
Since 2018, she has released three self-produced singles via Inner Ear Records: Dreaming of Tokyo (2013), Deer’s Eyes (2019), Anorexic Beauty (Pulp cover) (2020) and the single The Strike (2021), while composing music for theater and dance performances. In 2020, she wrote and created the handmade poetry book “Have I ever told you” with a 2-track digital album which was released via bandcamp.
Tango with Lions has opened the stage for various acclaimed international artists (Matt Elliott, Mark Lanegan, The Nits, The Bernard Lakes, Warhaus, Cigarettes after Sex etc.) and has collaborated with various artists and record labels in Greece and abroad.
New album “you.me.”
The album “you.me.” was created in Berlin and recorded in Athens, Greece, between September 2021-January 2022, at Lotus studios with producer Vasilis Dokakis.
The nine songs of the album build a tale of reflection on heartbreak and significant life changes, written shortly after the artist’s permanent relocation in Berlin, amid the pandemic.
The lyrics express the need of introspection and of processing the impact of various interactions with different people, time passing and global events. The songs observe, address questions or come to realisations about a different “you”, from the perspective of a different “me” in each tale.
The arrangements are rich in synthesisers, nostalgic bass lines and distinct piano sounds. Some of the songs are built on outgoing beats and instrumentations, other songs are low-key and acoustic.
